Femi's first experience of salsa came after he lost a bet with a salsa-mad friend who promised not to try and persuade him to do salsa if he went to just one salsa class and hated it. Luckily his friend was right on the money, and so began a love affair with salsa that has remained undimmed for over a decade. He has been teaching salsa for six years and ran a successful salsa club in Buckinghamshire until October 2007 when he decided to take a break from teaching to focus on other projects and commitments.
At the beginning of 2008, he decided to challenge himself to produce a routine for a show. By a series of circumstances, he found an unlikely dance partner in Livvy, one of his new salsa students. She had only a few months' experience of salsa but brought with her an ardent hunger and passion for the dance and music. Although not formally trained in the arts, she had been a successful jazz and soul singer who had wowed audiences when she'd made her debut at the Glasgow Jazz Festival. She, therefore, had an innate sensibility to salsa music as well as an unshakeable belief in her new dance partner and friend.
Femi and Livvy found a dance chemistry and had so much fun practising that their debut show "Bachata Medley - Don't Speak" was created within eight hours of working together. They made their debut performance in May 2008 at Latin Motion (their adopted home) for Mauricio Reyes. The show has been so well received that Femi and Livvy are still taking bookings to perform it well into 2009.
Their second show "Confessions" is the sequel to their debut show and was performed at GBSEx in Manchester, while their third show "Rock The Boat" will be debuted on New Year's Eve at the Latin Motion and Salsadelic party.
Femi and Livvy teach L A Style Salsa on 1, Salsa Tricks, Bachata & Bachata Tricks, Cha Cha & Cha Cha Tricks & Merengue & Merengue Tricks. They teach and perform at Party Nights and already have bookings for Weekenders and All Day events in 2009. Their aim is to bring a lot of fun to the dance floor with their playful style of teaching and dancing. They have a loyal following of students who have thoroughly enjoyed doing the incredibly silly things that Femi and Livvy call "Styling".
