timetable

(Please note that this page is highlighting the kind of class you can expect at one of our all day workshops; Not all classes listed below will be on offer at one event)

Bachata

Bachata was born in the Dominican Republic and with it continuing to be so increasingly popular, we often have three classes and levels available. Whether you have never danced this hot Latin dance or describe yourself as a seasoned Bachatero, we'll have a class for you.

Kizomba Basics

Kizomba - Angola and Portugal are responsible for this beautiful dance. It is the latest Afro phenomenon sweeping across the UK's dance floors right now. The dance is simple yet captivating and the music is mesmerizing. Why not give it a try?

Ladies Styling Class

These classes cover the basic and the more advanced aspects of styling that many women feel is necessary on the dance floor. During these classes you will experience how dancing is more than just basic movement and that your body is an instrument to express your passion. You will learn a short choreographed routines that will focus on balance, posture and presentation. A must to take your dancing to the next level.

Dips and Tricks

These classes are for Intermediate plus dancers only. You must be medically aware of any injuries you have and participants must enter in partners as there will be no class rotation. You take this class at your own risk so go with a partner you trust. Limited places, first come first served!

Lifts & Acrobatics

Another high level class that is 'strictly' for the advanced dancer only. No class rotation so take a partner you trust. Limited places, first come first served. You must be medically aware of any injuries you may have and be suitably fit for this class.

Rueda

A fun way to dance salsa. Dancers form a circle and carry out moves which are called by one person ("lider" in Spanish). Many of the moves are repeated as partners are swapped in a dynamic and exhilarating manner. These classes are guaranteed to be full of laughter and smiles as when one person goes wrong it effects the couples surrounding them. Various levels on offer!

Reggaeton

Reggaeton's origins come from Panama and Puerto Rico. With its popularity rapidly on the rise world wide, you won't want to miss out on this high energy upbeat class! The class will have a strong focus on body isolation, increasing movement and flexibility through a combination of hot and energetic routines. No partner is required and beginners as well as seasoned dancers are welcome. Reggaeton is presently vogue in Cuba.

(Ladies may want to change their dance shoes for this class as high heels may not be the best thing to wear)

Mens Shines

Although salsa is usually a partner dance, danced in a handhold, there are times when you may break away and 'shine', basically a time to show off or flirt with your partner. In this workshop you will learn intricate footwork and body movement whilst improving your timing and balance.

On completion of this class, your 'Suzy Q' will be gone forever and you will delight in seeing the look on your partners face as you show off your new found steps and confidence!

Cuban Salsa

Whereas Cross-body salsa is danced up and down the line with the men getting on and off the line, Cuban salsa involves circular movements with the leader and follower moving around each other. Moves often include complicated arm movements. We offer classes from the beginner through to the intermediate dancer.

Turns and Spins (solo, no partner necessary)

There is a big difference watching a dancer execute a controlled turn or spin compared to one who simply throws themselves around. This class is suitable for all levels whether you have been dancing for years or just beginning.

Focus will be on; balance, posture, preparation, spotting and landing that spin.

Cha Cha Cha

We often offer two fun classes: One for those that have little or no experience and one or the more advanced dancer.

New York cross-body

These classes need no further description. Come and learn some new moves taught in a fun and upbeat manner with some of the best Cross-body teachers in the business.

The Origins of Cuban Salsa

Last year I attended a lecture type lesson based on the history of salsa. I was so impressed that I asked Sacha (who is Cuban) to come to one of our all day events and offer you the same opportunity. So if you want to know how all the various types of music such as Son, Timba, Samba, Rumba and more recently Reggaeton have come together over the years, how the instruments affect our dancing and generally learn more about our much loved Latin dance, then make sure you attend Sacha's workshop.

Musicality

Have you ever struggled to find the down beat, struggled to find the count '1'? Do you find yourself dancing off the beat and want to know how to get back on it?

If this is you, or if you are an accomplished dancer that would like to know how music tracks come together with the different instruments then this is a class for you. Learn how to listen for the different instruments and you will see how some people dance on the count '2' and even on count '3'.

Belly Dancing

The term "Belly dance" is a translation of the French "danse du ventre". The term ''Belly dance'' is something of a misnomer as every part of the body is involved in the dance; the most featured body part is usually the hips. Belly dance takes on many different forms dependent upon country and region, this is both in costume and dance style. New styles have evolved in the West as its popularity has spread globally. Although contemporary forms of the dance have generally been performed by women, some of the dances, particularly the cane dance, is performed by men. Guaranteed to be a fun fun class and 'everyone' is welcome to come and try it out!

Burlesque

A theatrical dance where dancers often take on a different persona and act out a seductive strip tease. This class will allow you to explore your sexuality and develop your seducing techniques. Class members will be allowed to go as far or as little as they like. There is no nudity in burlesque dancing and no men will be allowed to enter the room. Salsabristol will begin running 8 week burlesque courses in 2012.

Zumba

A new keep fit genre spreading across the world. Zumba has a heavy Salsa dance flavour so we thought we would bring a class to you. All levels but expect to sweat!

(Ladies may want to change their dance shoes for this class as high heels are not recommended)

Private Lessons

Private Lessons are available throughout the day. These lessons will need to be pre-booked so contact us for details. Our teachers normally give us special event discounts. Whatever you want to improve on, whatever level you are, pick your favourite and book now!
