Becky Howe
Becky Howe is a woman on a salsa mission. Since discovering the dance when she was 16 she has pushed herself constantly to become a better dancer, and continues to develop her talent today. When Becky was a child she battled with deafness, and turned to gymnastics at a young age to help rebuild her confidence. After a lot of hard work, grit and determination (and overcoming a few broken bones along the way) she started competing, and went on to win county and regional titles from the age of 9 upwards. She qualified as a judge and coach at the age of 14 and put these qualifications to good use coaching a high level competition group and judging at county and regional finals. She uses this teaching experience to good effect in the salsa world, and has been passing on her knowledge and passion to new dancers since February 2009. While she's happy to dance any style going Becky's preference is for all things in straight lines. She is rapidly becoming well known and assists teachers such as Lee Hunter, Joseph Davids, Nigel Maye, Rohan Brown and DJ Fadi.
She performed her debut show in 2010 at the Scottish salsa congress and has been choreographing a show for her own student team in London. She co-choreographed and performed in a show at the Harbour Festival in Bristol, as well as taking part in numerous demonstration dances and student group shows. As well as shows for salsa audiences, Becky has recently worked under the instruction of Susana Montero and appeared on a dance show on TV. As well as this Becky has twice entered the World Record Spinning attempt and both times has come within the top 5 competitors. She was the only non-professional competing and achieved 116 spins in 60 seconds - barely missing on the record of 125! 2009 saw Becky moving to London to study for a joint honours degree in Criminology and Law and also to move closer to the heart of UK salsa. She can't wait for the next opportunity to reveal itself so that she can expand her horizons ever further... |
